Paying for Council Tax Change retrospectively

Today, I received notification of Council Tax Band change from Valuation Office Agency. I moved in my house 2.5 years ago. The change is based on alterations made to the house by the previous owner who'd lived there for 30 years. I have no issues with change which will be an increase from now on. My question is, will increase in band apply from when I moved in 2.5 years ago and therefore & do I have to pay for the 2.5 years extra? Many thanks

it will apply from whatever date the VOA says it will, that should be the date you moved in since the alterations predate your ownership
yes you will probably be billed for the 2.5 years of your ownership1 -
In England the effective date in circumstances such as yours is not backdated. However in Wales it is. So only if you live in Wales will you get a backdated bill.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
