Returning faulty goods to footasylum

I checked foot asylum website yesterday 're returns without receipt and paying with cash and it said you could return goods if you knew price paid so they could check.
My granddaughter 12yrs bought trainers in October with birthday money and sole has split.I tried to return today for exchange as obviously fault there with no luck said they could not check as they had just changed their system. Please help.
