NHS veneers vs Private veneers

Looking for a bit of dentistry advice. I've been offered both private and NHS veneers for my 2 front teeth. NHS cost= £200. Private cost = £600. My question is, is it worth the extra cost to go private? Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

I think you need more information from the dentist treating you. What will they be made out of? How much tooth needs to be removed to provide each type? What result are you expecting, and which would provide that best? There is much more to this than the cost.Discuss it more with your dentist, then the decision wouldn't need the input of random internet peopleHow to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I am not a dentist, so these comments are based only on my own experience and what I have learnt from the two helpful dentists that post regularly on here.......
There can be situations when the most cosmetically pleasing result is not the strongest and / or it may involve removing more of the original tooth. As I understand it, if you need a crown on a back tooth the NHS will only provide a silvery coloured metal one, which obviously doesn't look as nice. However I am told they can be significantly stronger and involve removing less original tooth than a cosmetically pleasing colour matched porcelain one. Whilst I'm sure the NHS wouldn't inflict you with metal front teeth (!!) it may be their option still puts functionality and minimal damage over aesthetics?
Secondly, sadly, the dentist will earn very little if anything if he is doing this job for an NHS Band 3 charge c. £260. (That is what you would pay, not what he gets paid). However, that is not your problem and it shouldn't of course affect the clinical advice he gives you. However, the temptation to "up-sell" must exist and inevitably some are more ethical than others. With the £600 private job he gets to keep it all, less of course lab fees and materials).0
