HI, How can I access the Halifax House Price Index as I cannot gain access via the Halifax web site?. Also, are there any other House Price Indices other than the Halifax & Nationwide that offer the facility of getting historic house prices eg back to 1991?.

If you're asking with a view to challenging your council tax banding, I don't think the VOA generally accept general house price guides as good evidence. You may be better visiting the local newspaper archive for 1991 and looking at the property for sale pages to get a more accurate idea of local prices.

Also try looking for property of the same size and type as yours nearby in a lower band.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
