Will my poor credit affect house purchase?

A few years ago I went through a pretty bad relationship and ended up in a mess with defaults and payday loans. I've worked really hard to get everything paid off and haven't had anything negative on credit file for 2 years. My credit score has not really recovered. I have a credit card which I use every month and pay in full to try and help but so far seeing little to no improvement. My husband owns the house we live in but we need to get a bigger house hopefully in about 12 months. My husband has always been very good with money and we will be looking at a mortgage of £100k on a £250k property. Will my poor credit have a hugely negative impact on our ability to get a joint mortgage?

If everything is over 3 years old there is a good chance you can get high street rates, but you probably need to be careful with your choice of lender.

Below 3 years there is still a possibility of normal rates but it will be a lot harder.

Low LTV and your husband being on there will give you a good chance. No harm speaking to a broker closer to the time.

I would be confident you can get a mortgage even now, it will all come down to whether you are getting sub 2% or 3-3.5% rates I reckon.
