How easy is it to replace a very old crown?

Hi there. The crown's over 20 years old, and it's on one of the top teeth. There's a gap which has formed due it's movement over those years. I'm not happy with the cosmetic look, so would it be just simply replacing the crown to it's original position, which would close that gap? Thanks.

Depending on lots of factors it could either be really easy, or it might be that it's better of left well alone. Only the dentist who can see you and properly assess the tooth can advise you properly.
This thread from a few days ago gives the possible pitfalls, and my advice to that poster would apply equally to you.

How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.1 -
I had three crowns replaced late last year because of the black gaps after at least 25 years, and it was very easy and fast. It's 'horses for courses' - some times these procedures go well and other times not so. Whether or not it's down to the calibre of the dentist I can't say. For me, the worst part is always having moulds made. Old crowns came out with some elbow grease, gold posts intact, nothing nasty shown on Xrays, temporary crowns on and a week / ten days later new crowns on. The very front one needed a bit of shaving back because of my bite, nothing much.Good luck if you decide to go ahead. I'm very happy with my new crowns, I can smile now without showing nasty black gaps! The price of vanity...0
