Yet another secret santa...

Well it's that time of year again, we just pulled names out of the hat for ours too and I got:
one of the project students (they are normally about 22/23 years old). I know very little about her other than she can draw - she works in our sattelite unit in another building so we don't see each other often. She works very very hard and doesn't seem to do much outside work; she's uncomfortable talking about anything other than work and is normally very quiet.
Normally our secret Santas are evil - people buy deliberatley horrible stuff (noone finds out who bought what), but I want to get her something nice as I don't know her well and I think she'd be upset quite easily.
I have no idea. I thought about buying her a sketch book, but that's all I've come up with so far. Our limit is £5.

I'm guessing she'll have lots of drawing stuff so I'd go for some lush, a little gift box ready done, it's my favourite default gift for girls at it's always well received. Or....a picture frame is always useful. If she is quite introverted a journal may hit the spot, if you can find a nice one for a fiver. A nice chrismas candle?
That's all I got

If you want to go for arty stuff, then The Works have loads of stuff like that quite cheaply!!

I reckon you can't go wrong with some nice smellies, though perhaps a nice notebook might be a good idea too. I agree with you that getting something nice for someone you don't really know is the best way forward!
I'm never sure about giving candles as I'm not a candle-y person so am never sure what to do with them when I get them - I worry about setting the house alight! Think it is years of health and safety training creeping up on me lol0 -
I like the idea of an artisits bouquetNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

Ooh, I like that idea! That would be a really nice way of mixing things up too. I paint and draw, but I'm quite fussy about the materials I use so this would be a nice way of chosing a variety of materials rather than making the mistake buying one type. I also have a few bits I could add at home already that would pad it out a bit.
I could use a pretty jam jar for the base, which could double as a water pot. Thanks so much, that's a great idea.

People always buy me smellies or chocolate because I'm classed in the difficult catagory too, so I like the idea of buying something a bit different. Still, given what normally happens, I get off lightly (honestly, some of the stuff last year was horrific - the adapted soft !!!!!! magazine had to be seen to be believed - I'd post a photo but it would get reported faster than a shoplifting streaker)
I try not to buy smellies for people (other than my family) because I'm allergic to everything so I do worry if I don't know what they can or like to use. I also just want her to realise that although she is very quiet we still know she's there.
I found her on facebook earlier too, which helped - she draws animals mainly (she photographs her work and uploads it) and it looks like she uses a number of different sorts of media, which is nice (and makes the job of picking bits out easier!). She has nothing else listed under interests at all (other than work! )
I've also got a an absolutely horrible cat calender for one guy, my aunt sent it to me for a joke. He *hates* cats and his fiancee has just bought two kittens - I'll just put in anyway, even though he'll get a pressie from someone else too
That'll confuse them all for very little work! :rotfl: :rotfl: I might get some cat food too as I have a lot a coupons for that kicking around at home *giggles* :staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0
