British Gas

I did have £200 owing to british gas (for usage, not non payment) so they increased my monthly payment a bit to cover my usage and pay back the £200.

Today I've come home to a bill saying my new monthly payment is doubling and I'm £300 in debit.

How does this work with bankruptcy when I push the button next month? Is the £300 wiped out?

Or does it not get included in the BR because it's over use not under paying??

Thanks

When I went bankrupt the water bill was in arrears, this was included in the bankruptcy. The water company closed the account in arrears and set up a new account starting fresh. So once you click submit the £300 is gone, I'd avoid payint too much towards your electric unless it's on DD and you have no control over the amount as you want to avoid preferential payments, ideally just pay for what you use until next month.

This should be the same situation, although you may have to change electric suppliers (I don't know), with the water there is only one supplier in our area.
I may be wrong sometimes, I learn a little every time I'm corrected.

I'd think the OR would need to be exceptionally strict to class that as a preferential payment. What the OR is IMHO looking for is a preferential payment which benefits you, your family or friends. The classic example is that you owe friends or family thousands, you stop paying credit cards, bills  etc and put all the money that frees up into paying friends and family. The gas bill changing doesn't have any of those issues, it might be reasonable to talk to British gas saying you are in financial difficulties and negotiate a reduced payment, but if your going bankrupt soon I wouldn't bother

The new payment doesnt come into effect until April so I will only be paying the higher amount once and then I can inform them I'm bankrupt.
