Getting Mortgage ready

Hi Guys,

So i'm nearly at the stage of getting mortgage ready, deposit more or less there and  sorry if i've missed it somewhere, but wanted to ask is it worth while tidying up my direct debts?
I'm at the stage of starting to look at property and should be happy enough to start making offers in the next 3 months, but is it worth tiding up my direct debts to make my bank account look better? As in a direct debt for home insurance, pay it off in full now so it and others don't show on my bank statement if that makes sense?

Along with removing all i can do without for a while?

  • No need to go that far. Brokers and lenders may assess the bank accounts for conduct but some lenders don't even see them.

Key would be to look at your credit file and see if there is anything there that can be cleared up in the next few months as that would hold more water than a bank account.

Thanks for the reply, I transfer over money to another bank account every month for savings and direct debits so have just tidied that up a bit into one transfer for all savings to make it look cleaner anyway.

I looked at my credit file and think i'm ok bar canceling an old credit card i never use(zero balance) and getting back on the electoral role (I tried to update my address and missed the date to send in evidence so no longer on it as last address is now canceled)Hope do do this both by tomorrow.
