Islamic wedding ceremony - pensions

The new ruling from our courts could have massive implications. I recall reading about a Muslim couple that were married when the female was a minor and wondered why we recognised it. Does it have implications for any other foreign marriages?
Just interested, it does not affect me in any way.
A court has reversed a judgment from two years ago which found that a couple who had an Islamic wedding ceremony could legally divorce. The High Court ruled in 2018 that the couple's Islamic "nikah" ceremony fell within English marriage law.
But the Court of Appeal has now said it was an "invalid" non-legal ceremony.

I suppose it all hinges around the legal definition of spouse. Could well see a few court cases coming up in the future.

I think it hinges around the fact that a nikah wedding alone here is not valid. It would still need the involvement of a registrar and done in a licensed place.
Nikah weddings are valid in the UK if they were done in a country where those types of weddings can legally be carried out and are seen as valid

Many pension schemes now pay survivor's benefits to non-married co-habiting partners.0
