Pension payments for a couple

Hello
My husband is self employed and pays into a stakeholder pension each month. He pays in £245 and gets £61 tax relief in top so approx £306 is added.
I have used my full employer contribution but I can do additional non matched contributions on salary sacrifice which give me tax and NI savings.
So by my calculation I could have £360 go into my works pension at the same cost of £245. So we thought it makes sense for me to pay and his contributions to stop.
(My paying this doesn't affect any of my work benefits)
So what I'd like to know is if there is any reason(s) that we shouldn't do this whilst the NI saving is available?
I am 3 years younger so would wait longer to access but he already has the pot he has already accrued which would last that amount of time.
Thank you.

Why did you think it was sensible to stop your husband paying into his pension?

Sorry, I probably haven't explained clearly.
I meant I pay into my pension instead of him paying into his. For the same cost of £245, £360 goes to my pension instead of the £306 to his . Which would give more for us both when we retire.
We treat everything as joint. I wouldn't be taking anything from him.0 -
What you propose is correct with regard to the arithmetic of gaining on the NI contributions . Presumably you would continue with your own current contributions and this £360 would be on top ?
The only potential downside would be when you come to take your pensions. By each having a pot you might be able to utilise the full income tax personal allowance better .

To be honest with you even you both pay in £300 to £360 a month in to your pensions for the next twenty years or so with your state pension of around £168 per week, £8800 a year plus inflation you would at best both be getting a state pension and a private pension of around £12,500 each, therefore in all likleyhood would be paying no income tax tax on your pensions.A combined couples state and private pension between you of £25,000 per year assuming it keeps up with inflation and that is not guarinteed. You would be at best be doing OK. It would not be a great idea to only pay into one private pension. What ages are you both, how much in total do you earn per year and spend per year. How much do you have in your pension pots at the moment.Have you got up to date state pension forecasts.0
