Employer refusing to pay towards glassses

  • Your employer is required to pay for a standard eye test if you are a DSE user, but without a specific document from the optician they are not legally required to pay for your spectacles. You do not know the circumstances of your colleagues, nor do you have any right to know - stick to your own situation and submit a claim for the eye test. If you have paid for a specialist one by your own choice, they do not have to pay for that - most cap the costs (mine offer £25) because you don't need to pay more. Even if you are leaving, they should reimburse you for that.

  • The employer is required to pay for an eye test appropriate for a DSE user.  They may impose conditions - such as it has to be with a particular optician.  They don't have to pay in retrospect for someone who decided to go to, for example, Boots.
They then only need to pay for the most basic of single prescription glasses if the glasses are required specifically for DSE equipment use, not if they would also be used for reading.  (But I expect you will know all that from reading previous links.)
