Dreading dbs check

Can anyone help put my mind at rest at all?
I’ve got a new role and having an enhanced dbs check but I’m worried as almost 6 years ago, I genuinely accidentally walked out of a store with an item. I was mithered with the kids and had my hands full of bags whilst looking around. I’d been looking for a gift and found something I liked but noticed kids had gone. I went looking for them and by this point I was so stressed I herded them out into the ship next door to buy bread so I could then just get home. I didn’t realise I was still holding the item, it was in my hand with all my bags still.

I got a tap on the shoulder suddenly and a guy asked me to come back next door. At first I thought the kids had done something wrong so I willingly followed him to the back , then through the staff door. I was confused and that’s when he told me the police had been called and that I’d shoplifted. I was beside myself and in bits. No matter how much I pleaded it was an innocent mistake, he wouldn’t have it and was screaming at me. I certainly would have realised when I got to the car and would have certainly gone back to pay for it and explain.
An officer attended and asked my name and details, and confirmed I had no prior history. I was full on break down at this point and repeated it was a stupid genuine mistake. I was also petrified as my job is a role where I deal with vulnerable people that I love, and I told the officer this. The store gave me a form saying I was banned for 12 months ( not that I’d ever return due to the shame) and the officer said I was free to leave.
I never heard anything about it again, and I had a standard dbs check 7 months after this incident which didn’t show anything.
i am now just worried that it may show up on the enhanced one as this is my dream job and I’ve never had any dealings with the police other than to report things.

Could this show up? Is it a caution? I’m so worked up as my dbs has gone through the first 3 stages in a matter of days but now stuck at stage 4 ( local police check) for over a week.

Relax. If you didn't get a caution there's nothing to show up. To set your mind at rest, here's a good explanation of the procedure the police would have had to follow if you were cautioned: https://www.bindmans.com/insight/blog/everything-you-need-to-know-about-police-cautions1

Hopefully somebody who knows will be along in a minute, but if you did get a caution then the police should have made that very clear to you at the time. It doesn't sound like you were even arrested, let alone cautioned.1

I really hope so. He wrote my name and details in his notebook so I had visions of me having a record for a genuine mistake that happened whilst stressed with kids.0

Definitely had no cuffs slapped on or taken to a station. Not sure if he felt sorry for me and believed me so just told me to leave.0

It’s not a caution , you would know . I don’t think this will come up to be honest, it’s a genuine mistake.1

That doesn't sound like a caution. Normally a caution would be given after you had been interviewed at a police station, and in order for you to have been cautioned, you would have had to have admitted the offence. It sounds as though you didn't admit it - you made clear it was an error. It sounds as though the officer just noted what you and the security guard each said, and took no further action. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)1
