Help reclaiming council tax on new build

I moved in to my house in November 2019, the house was built in 2005. I’ve looked at what council tax bands my neighbours are in and we’re all in different bands due to our houses being different e.g some with more rooms than others. All the houses in the same housing estate which are the same as mine are paying the same council tax as me but I just feel it is way too high. Can I challenge it or is it just on houses that we’re build before a certain date??
Id be grateful for any help please. I just find it very confusing as we are paying a lot of money to council tax and where we live the roads haven’t been adopted. Thanks

The roads not being adopted will have minimal effect on a dwelling's value so will not affect the CT band. Council Tax is a big expense, so thinking that it is a lot of money is quite natural, but is not a  reason for a band to be lowered.

As the houses were built 15 years ago, it is quite possible the band may have already been challenged. If so, then as the all the houses of the same type as yours are the same band, then the challenge was either successful and all the bands were lowered, or it was unsuccessful and the bands stayed unchanged.

Either way there will be little hope of you successfully pursuing a challenge. Even if the band of your house type has not been challenged, then you will have to find a house of a similar type and size in the neighbourhood as yours in a lower band to offer as a reason for reduction.

If you do wish to formally appeal the CT band, remember you have only 6 months from the date you first occupied or became entitled to occupy the house
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
