How to Use QUOTE, SPOILER & CODE

I think most users have realised how to quote another post by clicking on "Quote" below that post. The only ongoing problem seems to be some users adding their own comments inside the quote box instead of outside - which can confuse readers.
There are 3 further related formatting options you can use by clicking on the formatting symbol:-

Quote

Opens an empty quote box that you can type text in or paste text from an external source:

Code

Opens a box that you can type text in or paste text from an external source, but the results are displayed on one line so scrolling right may be required - I can't imagine much use for it.

Spoiler

Opens a box that you can type text in or paste text from an external source, but the display is interesting. All a reader initially sees is shown below, but clicking on "Spoiler" reveals the original text.

Anybody familiar with the monthly Mensa competition will know I "hide" the answer because some people like to have a go at the puzzle before seeing my answer - and Spoiler is a method I will try.

Typically - due to forum problems the use of and display of these is a bit buggy.

if you "quote" but delete a bit and end up with the cursor inside the quote box there appears to be no quick way way back out of it  just undo,undo undo etc (I just start again)

When I go into edit my profile, there is on the left something called 'quote settings'.  It says 'How many levels deep should we start folding up quote trees?' 

Would you be kind enough to explain what this is in layman's terms?

Think Levels Deep could be the same as, for example, Folders/Directories such as those used by Windows.

Top Level
---------------Sub_Directory
-------------------------------------SUB_Sub_Directory

and so on.

Could this be it?

This post has Five Levels of nested quote (taken from the TAB thread). A nested quote is a quote within a quote like a Russian Matryoshka doll. The setting in "profile" sets how many you see in full before you get the "» show previous quotes" link. You have to click "» show previous quotes" to see the remaining levels of the nested quotes. 
I think it is best left set quite low - the default is 2 - or the scrolling can get excessive. It is easy to click to explode the quote if you are interested in the subject.

The idea behind this is that it allows you to post a string of HTML without the forums actually translating it.

Hit the last button </> to show the html version. Then put your cursor where it belongs. Then hit </> again to get back to simple entry.  (I did this to put a space and text between the two quote blocks).

NBLondon if you this happens as it has happened to me, if you out the cursor in the middle of the word where the space is and delete the space it works
