What's the cheapest way of getting train travel in September?

Hi!
Before I start, I should explain that I haven't got a smart phone, nor am I planning on getting one in the future, so any use of any apps to save money will not help me. Sorry!

I'm planning on travelling Coventry to Euston (London) in September 21st, stay for a few days, and return on the 24th September. If needs be, I can limit myself to travelling at set times between Cov and London, but I would like to know what problems I might face as a result. I would also like Zone 1 travel whilst I am down there. What would be the cheapest way of buying the necessary tickets?

Many thanks in advance

Advance fares typically go on sale around 10-12 weeks in advance; looking at random dates in April I can see Advance fares around midday for around £7.50 each way if you are happy to commit to specific times; an online seat selector is also available so you can pick your choice of seat, if you go for a fast train operated by Avanti.

Alternatively if you want a cheap semi- flexible ticket, you can get a Super Off Peak Return for use on trains operated by West Midlands Trains for £25 return. Some websites will offer these fares automatically (you may have to select a 'cheap' mode or show overtaken trains) but not all sites will. A ticket office should offer this. You would be restricted to a range of times but not to a specific train.

For travel within London, your cheapest option is to use a contactless debit or credit card.
