Mortgage direct debit returned - Will mortgage company retry again?

Hi,
So today I've received a text message informing me that I've had this month's mortgage direct debit (due yesterday) returned because of a lack of funds in my bank account. I'm really kicking myself as I thought I had sufficient funds in my bank account to cover it. It's a Barclays mortgage.

My question is will Barclays try to take the amount later, say in a few days time, or do I need to make payment myself? Obviously, I will be contacting Barclays about this but as I'm at work right now, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this. Thanks.

You didn't check your bank yesterday to make sure the payment went?
Why not have the mortgage DD set up to leave the day after your salary hits the current account?

    Make a manual payment ASAP.

That's the really annoying thing. I'm usually really good at checking my account to make sure it has sufficient funds for all my outgoings. For the past 10 years or so, my mortgage DD has left my account without problem until today. Unfortunately recently because of family issues I took my eye of the ball. Still, I thought I had enough to cover.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. Looks like I will need to make a manual payment.

Make the payment and call Barclays CS straight away to tell them what has happened

You do not want this on your file
