as a qualified social worker each year i have to pay a registration fee of £30 in order to practice.
when paying this fee social workers are advised that the £30 is tax deductable. however no advice is given on how to do this.
could someone please advise me how to do this, or point me to a resource that explains the process.
- i have had a quick look at hmrc website but could not find any relevant info.
thanks

Go to the HMRC website and find a number for your local tax office. Phone them up and very politely explain about the registration fee and the years you have paid the fee for.
They will then send you the appropriate forms. Once you completed the forms they are likely to send you a cheque for the previous years or adjust your tax code for this year. In future years (or this year if they haven't adjusted your tax code) you tax code will be adjusted. You will receive a letter every year with your tax code and you need to inform HMRC asap if the registration fee increases.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

You dont need to complete any forms. Just send a letter to your tax office outlining the fee you have paid each year (you can go back 6 yrs). Ask for a refund in the form of a cheque as I understand some tax offices are being lazy and just adjusting this year's code which is not correct.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
