Advice on dental mouth guards

Visited the dentist last week. Was advised to get a dental mouth guard due to medium to severe grinding. I am assuming that this is very necessary as there will be health and financial implications if I do not have the guard. Was informed that it was part of band 3 dental treatment which is £269.30. Is there any value in looking elsewhere? A brief search online reveals that one can get custom made mouth guards for much much cheaper. Is it necessary to have it done on the NHS? Is there anybody else who has had this dilemma and would share their experiences. Thanks.

I had a cheap one made by my NHS dentist 4 years ago, it is a plastic type and does the job for me and it cost me £35.
Not sure if it is right for everyone but thats what i did.

It was his suggestion so i think it would have come under private treatment.

Sounds like a lot. My private dentist said a replacement was £55 but that would be from existing impression.
i would say definitely get one. I’ve cracked 3 teeth and one implant crown and that is all much more expensive so definitely a worthwhile investment.
  • Okay thanks. I'll go back to the dentist and chat about it some more.
