Pro-rata Salary pay

Morning
Just wondered if anyone can help give me some clarity on how employers generally calculate pro-rate salary
The reason I ask is that I started a new job 20th Jan. So in my Feb pay I will be paid for February and 20-31st Jan.
The pay I will receive for January… will that be for 12 calendar days? 10 working days or 2 weeks pay? i.e. 12/365ths or a salary, 10/260ths or 2/52s?
Am I correct in assuming that each company may have its own formula. Or is there a general calculation?
Thanks in advance guys!

Do you know if the company you work for pays a full month at a time? I know you're saying you'll get paid for february but do you know this or guessing?
Each company has their own pay period and pay date, so all we can do is guess. Just give payroll a ring and ask them.
For what it's worth, we pay annual salary /12 on each 24th of the month (for 5 days a week). But my previous employer paid by the days up to 25th of the month, so each month was different.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
What does your contract say?I used to work in the NHS and your monthly pay was simply your annual salary divided by 12. If you worked a part month your pay was pro-rated according to calendar days. So if you started on 20 January you'd get paid 12/31 of one twelfth of your annual salary for January. Follow me? (Or if you started on 20 February you'd get 10/29 this year.)But some employers pay according to how many "working days" there are in the month, so your January pay would depend on how many working days there are in the period 20 January to 31 January inclusive.what does your contract say or ask your manager or ask HR.0
