To take higher paid job or not?

From most people I've heard call centre work is miserable. However, I would be willing to take it if it means you can clear your debt. I would accept the job, set out a really tight budget so you can pay that debt off really quickly, save as much extra as you can and then start looking for other work elsewhere after your debt is repaid. Somehow working a crappy job when you know you're just there for the money and the light is at the end of the tunnel s so much easier vs just grinding along not knowing if/when you can leave.1

I agree with greensalad, a horrid job can feel very different if you set a time limit on it. You could play around with spreadsheets and/or a snowball calculator to find your current 'debt free date', then make a game of trying to beat this date--surveys, selling unused items, buying essentials (such as food) more cheaply and so on.
Combine the above with a freedom fund target and you can set a date to either leave your current job and take some time out for self nurturing, or decide a baseline salary that you'd need to live reasonably comfortably once debts are paid off. You could then reduce your hours (if possible), or look for a new job at that salary amount, or set up your own business doing something you enjoy, or a combination of all the above. Or something else entirely--do travelling performer roles still exist?
Good luck and well done on getting out before you ended up jobless!2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30002
