Dressing for christmas

I am having my first ever christmas as the host and am hopeless in dressing my home and table, (hope this is the right place for this post!) and want to knock them dead. Ive chosen a colour scheme and have a few basic ideas but thought it would be great if anyone had any photos past and present to give myself and other people ideas. Havent got loads of money to play with but dont want tacky. Is there any tricks to pull it off. I perfer rustic cottage but not to much fuss. HYCH Jay-jay
I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

I haven't got any picture but I love white with silver.......... Simple but effective. Silver charger plates with white napkins and silver napkin rings.0

One year I copied a theme from a Christmas magazine. It was very rustic.
I bought a few metres of red gingham fabric and made place mats by simply cutting rectangles and then fraying the edges of the fabric. I used red gingham ribbon to tie a little bow on the back of each chair (to highlight the theme). You can also make either red or white napkins (similar to the placemats) and rather than using napkin rings, I tied a small amount of raffia around each one.
I placed a little tree in the middle of the table (with matching bows) and a couple of church candles and it looked absolutely gorgeous! And I bought all of the above on Ebay for next to nothing. When my mum saw it she thought it was beautiful.0 -
Ive chosen a colour scheme of red and silver and had already thought about the bows, but really like the idea of making place settings, hadnt thought of that and the ones I looked at to buy were extortionate. Thank you.I hope that my child, looking back on today

Some great and cheap ideas using red and or silver =
buying red whole chillis (from the supermarkets) and using each one for the following three things:
the bottom ie pointy bit for storing each person's knives and forks at their table setting
the middle bit ie a circle for using as a napkin ring and the top (stem bit) for using as a table decoration as a tea light holder
It's nice and festive and cost effective and as an ex-florist for a very swanky floral designer, very designer-y too!
Will post other ideas later.
