Hi All!
God it's been a while since I posted an SOA...
Basically, for those of you who know me, and even those who dont...
I'm getting married, in March, to a lovely guy who I used to go to primary school with, all a bit of a whirlwind! :j
Now he's got debts.... more than me.... and basically I'd like these as under control as possible before we sign up to each other, and the money becomes more entwined...
So here is his SOA...
Incoming £1440
Outgoings
Rent £250
Petrol £240
Mobile £60
Cineworld £11.99
Sky £43
Fitness First £27.95
Debts
Abbey Loan No 1 £89.42
Outstanding £3487.83 APR 19.9%
Abbey Loan No 2 £136.56
Outstanding £6281.76 APR £14.9%
Halifax CC £25
Outstanding £1820 APR 0% for next 7 months
Car Finance £147.29
Only just taken it out
Outstanding £5795 APR 10.9%
I've tried telling him to cancel Cineworld and Sky, but he uses his Cineworld card as his social thing with his work lot (Police Force), so its his r&r time and he does make sure he sees at least 3 films a month and he's pretty good with it because he nevers buys food etc at the cinema... so I could kind of see his point.
Sky I think he's being ripped off with but he's still in contract, is he likely to be able to negotiate if still in the 12 months?
Gym again he uses regularly as his social thing, exercise etc, looking at least 2 visits per week, again he takes his own water etc, doesnt spend whilst there.
Any advice for a B2B on how to teach him the error of his way? :rotfl:
I've put his details in Snowball, and shown him what can happen with repayments of differing amounts etc and he's all gung ho with enthusiasm but I think I'm gonna struggle with getting him to actually get the ball rolling....
Any advice most appreciated!

It looks like he has £400 a month left over but I think there's a lot missing... no car tax, no car insurance, breakdown cover, holidays, birthdays, haircuts, dentist, clothes. Does his rent include all bills like phone, internet, gas, electricity etc?
Thanks

his car insurance and his tax have already been paid for this year, he paid it in one lump sum payment a few months ago, so it wont be due for another 10 months. I did ask him about it, and thats what he told me.
Holidays and birthdays, he doesnt buy anyone presents for it, and doesnt expect any back.
I did try to get a rough ball park figure from him for his miscellaneous spending since I know he buys food at work etc, but he couldnt really give me an idea.So I'd say at least £200 a month he must spend on just rubbish like food on his shifts, dvds, books, magazines etc...
His rent includes everything you mentionned since he's back at his parents house for the interim.Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

Well his stepmum cooks him dinners if he's home that day and she does have stuff in for him to eat as well, but I have to admit he's quite lazy in that respect, if hs hungry, he goes out for takeaway etc... something which Im trying to drump into him is not only expensive but unhealthy!
And no we're not living together at the momentWealth is not measured by currency0 -
I think he could negiotate with Sky. He's probably got more than he needs. I've got the same package, with Sky Sports and could probably get rid of some of the music channels.
Have you spoken about how you are going to manage your finances once you move in together? Maybe worthwhile putting a spreadsheet together to give him a more realistic overview of how the numbers are going to work out?
Good luck xx0 -
We've had a bit of a conversation about finances when we move in. I'd much rather both of us were responsible for the debt we accrued before getting together, but I'll help him where I can, after taking care of mine.
We had a play around with some numbers as well for living together and in a way I'd prefer him to give me the money we need ( or in a household acct) so that no matter what happens, i.e what he spends after that, I know the bills are covered etc.
Will try and get him to give sky a call and see what he can knock off on there...Wealth is not measured by currency0
