I'm a bit disheartened that it won't stay fresh, it used to with our original milkman. 

You milk does not stay fresh for one very good reason.
Have you ever seen a milk delivery roundsman with a refrigerated vehicle ??
No wonder it goes off.

This is why it is traditionally delivered one pint at a time, so you get fresh every morning.

That's why traditionally it always goes off.
2 or 3 hours on the delivery van then a couple hours on on your doorstep.
No wonder it does not keep.
