I have a couple of questions,
- I am looking to get a mortgage. I am currently mortgage free and have been for around 8 years so I'm not actually remortgaging, but I have had a mortgage before so I'm not a first time buyer. What am I?!
- Also, is it normal these days to be charged for advice. This is a quote from a mortgage advisor that has been recommended locally. I just need to know if this is strandard or not before I proceed :

"For residential mortgages A fee of £195 payable at the outset. This fee is for advice, research and the recommendation. A fee of £250 which is payable when you apply for a mortgage and is for arranging the loan We will also be paid by commission from the lender" |

Personally I prefer to pay brokers on mortgage offer, gives them more incentive to work and myself peace of mind"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Some brokers won't charge and some do. Mainly down to their business models. However, finding a good reputable independent one is the best route
As for what are you.........Are you looking to take a mortgage for a house move or taking capital out of your property? Your initial post doesn't really clarify this.I am a mortgage broker and IFA.
