Remortgaging

I have a couple of questions,
 - I am looking to get a mortgage. I am currently mortgage free and have been for around 8 years so I'm not actually remortgaging, but I have had a mortgage before so I'm not a first time buyer. What am I?!

- Also, is it normal these days to be charged for advice. This is a quote from a mortgage advisor that has been recommended locally. I just need to know if this is strandard or not before I proceed :

"For residential mortgages

A fee of £195 payable at the outset. This fee is for advice, research and the recommendation.

A fee of £250 which is payable when you apply for a mortgage and is for arranging the loan

We will also be paid by commission from the lender"

Personally I prefer to pay brokers on mortgage offer, gives them more incentive to work and myself peace of mind

  • Some brokers won't charge and some do. Mainly down to their business models. However, finding a good reputable independent one is the best route

As for what are you.........Are you looking to take a mortgage for a house move or taking capital out of your property? Your initial post doesn't really clarify this.
