Marriage tax refund misled

Anyone else applied for marriage tax refund through marriage tax refund and were not aware of 30% charge. Has anyone had luck in cancelling with them. I didnt realise at time and owed by hmrc by around 1400 for previous tax years and I am not happy because I have gone through a 3rd party.. Thanks

Sorry you did not understand you were dealing with a third party but for others reading this it is the easiest thing in the world to do it yourself.  Get on HMRC site and it takes a few minutes, easiest £1,300 I have ever made.
  • The cheque has been sent by hmrc to them and I have tried emailing the 3rd party to cancel but no nreply

What did you think this meant on their website:-

    No win, no fee

We offer a free assessment on a no win, no fee basis

  • They've done what you employed them to do, so you need to pay them for all their hard work.

Totally understand but I did not take notice at the time. Its a big mistake but can it be rectified if I don't use their cheque?

No, you will have agreed to pay them the percentage for their 10 minutes work so you have to pay them.

They are owed what you agreed to pay them for a job you could do yourself.

Just 1 question but how were you misled ?

You employed them and agreed their price.    They did the work and have now billed you.  Your right to cancel is 14 days from when you entered the contract.  If its past 14 days it is too late.
