Is an apprenticeship wage liveable?

  • An apprenticeship is 'time served'...it's just one of those things every apprentice has to go through.  Poor wages and earning your way to a skilled job that will, eventually, start paying decent money.  Trouble is, the youth want everything now, that's not how apprentices work, you need to patiently 'do your time',
  • I think you're too young to do an apprenticeship. When you're older mummy and daddy can help you through it.

You would get minimum wage after your first year which makes an older apprentice uneconomical for a business as if you were under 18 minimum wages are at a cheaper rate.

If you're 24 and you want to do an apprenticeship then you will be pleased to know that your minimum is not £3 an hour, it's actually £3.90, soon to be £4.15.

There's no need to be a duckhead about it.
I don't want "everything now", I just think that if you are working for a company they should have to pay you minimum wage at least....

A first year apprentice gets first year apprentice rate, £3.90 just now, regardless of age, our OP is 24 but he still gets £3.90 an hour for his first year.

People on unemployment benefit manage and they get half what you do.

many pensioners don’t get much more and they manage.

so the answer to your original question is yes, you can manage on an apprentice wage.

The opening post asks if an apprentice wage is liveable, the answer is that with undefined outgoings, it is not calculable.

However the OP does say they can budget, so an answer should be an obtainable with a bit of legwork
