Spate of gym locker thefts. Can I cancel mid contract?

Hi. I've had an email from my gym (Total Fitness) informing me that 'there has recently been a series of locker break ins at the (my local club)'. Now this is a generic email that's been sent to all member of my local gym. The email goes on to say 'At this time please be extra vigilant, we recommend taking valuables with you during your visit.' My argument here is that I don't want to cart my gym bag around the gym with me when I work out and I most certainly don't want to leave it in the locker. Now I suppose you can say carrying my belongings with me is not a big deal but when you're paying £40 a month for a membership it's not really what you want. Am I within my rights to ask to cancel my membership 6 months into my 12 month contract or is it simply not going to happen?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

No. Good try though.
Use the 6 months to get really fit so you can chase after the bad guys when needed.

go to the gym with bare essentials in your wallet and keep your phone on you.0

I keep my car keys and mobile on me at the gym. In the shower, I place them in a waterproof bag and hang it on the door. I never have anything of value in my bag which I keep in the locker.

If you dont need it why not keep your phone in the car, do you need to take your gym bag in with you, keep anything you dont need in your car.
As for cancelling the contract why not speak to the gym. Are the lockers the type you can use your own padlock ?

When I used to go to the gym, I had a bum bag on me with my essentials and it was the bare minimum, my keys were at home because the other half was in. I had my phone on me.
Now, I just work out at hom and wait for someone to break in who fancies their chances!0 -
Can't comment on OPs original question- but I've had my mobile phone nicked out of a locker at a gym. Turns out they waited to come in back entrance and picked various locks. Also know someone who was followed (daily routine) and had top sports car and designer clothing nicked whilst he worked out (they sneaked into gym- which was a high end one) and watched which locker he was using and broke the padlock. Car was recovered by Police in council estate miles away. I try not to have too many valuables on me, and my chain now insists we use out own padlocks.Projects 2020-
