Sainsbury Smartscan - forgotten items...

Hi,
I'm a big user of Sainsbury's Smartscan (where you scan using your mobile) - until today that is! As I left the Sainsbury Car Park I checked my receipt and realised that an item had been missed off and felt absolutely terrible... I was in a quandary as to what to do so I shot straight back in paid for the missing item and shot straight back out. Was that ok - should I have owned up to it? Mind you, if I hadn't have asked for a receipt then I would never have known...
I think I may stop using it now especially as you do tend to feel like a thief as you put items straight into your bag
