Major Works Council Tax Discount?

I’ve bought a new house that I’ve been renovating. I rang the council as an they are going to send an inspector round as I may qualify for a major works discount (as the house had a massive damp problem). I can t find much information about the criteria online. Has anyone applied for this before and do you have any tips . I didn’t know about the potential discount when I bought the house and have only just found out. Fortunately, I have taken lots of pictures of the renovation and I have all the invoices for the works completed.

The Class A exemption, which used to cover works, was abolished in Enfland some years ago. It was replaced by a Class D discount, which is set at a local level under delegated powers. The basic qualifying criteria remain the same though and these are set in law.What works needed doing to the property and which council are you in ?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
