Bad hair day every day

Options
Does anyone know about hair? I have grown my hair dye out and my hair is worse than ever. It's very soft and fluffy so when I wake up in the morning "bed hair " has nothing on how I look. I have stopped using conditioner, tried sulfate free tried head and shoulders, I've had it cut in layers although I haven't gone very short as I know it will be just standing up.
I really don't know what else to try other than a full head shave and perhaps a wig

Treat other's how you like to be treated.

And now I have the joy of having my foster granddaughter becoming my real granddaughter. Can't ask for anything better

UPDATE,
As of today 180919. my granddaughter is now my official granddaughter, adoption finally granted

  • It's probably wavier or curlier than you think ;) using conditioner is usually a good idea, more moisturised = better defined texture. How long is your hair at the moment?

around the ear but I have layers, my hair is straightish but with a mind of its own and although I have always used conditioner now it seems to make it softer. I find mousse too " heavy"
It also looks like I have split ends which I haven't and it looked like that even when I did use conditioner

  • May be  not the most moneysaving but this sounds like my hair .
I have been getting keratin treatment at a hair salon (approx £75) ,lasts about 4 -6 months .
Hair sits really well , texture better and sits like its been styled when left to dry naturally .
In the long run I dont think it has been any more expensive than the numerous styling products , home treatments ,shampoos I was repeatedly buying to tame my mane !

Oh, that's quite short, and with layers too I don't think that will help. (And short enough that you're right, conditioner probably isn't necessary.) In reading other people's experiences the only real thing that helps is to grow it out long enough for it to weigh itself down more - nice and cheap! But if you want to keep it the same length I don't really have any ideas, sorry.
'Split ends' is usually hairdresser speak for either dried out ends (probably not your problem at this length) or the ends of hairs not laying all flat with one another - which would indicate having more texture to your hair than you realise, especially as the default for most of us is treating our hair as if it's straight unless we're told otherwise. 'Straightish with a mind of it's own' is also common to hear for hair that turns out to be wavy or curly ;)

If you're interested in working out what's going on and working with your hair, come over to https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/forum.php But if that's not for you and you simply want help to tame it into submission, hopefully there'll be other more helpful people along with tips [I have a fairly decent knowledge about hair beauty and how it grows, etc., but that does not include how to handle short hair!].

  • You might want to google ‘curlygirl’ - there’s a whole series of info and resources out there. One thing that I found helpful when I decided to go curly was using a little bit of conditioner through my hair after washing (e.g. pea sized rubbed on my hands).

Other advice from my hairdresser, tie your hair up at night if you can, or protect it with a hairband. Let it dry naturally when you wash it and don’t fiddle with it, touch it as little as possible.
