Mortgage first or Personal loan for a car first

I want to purchase a second hand car and apply for a mortgage the next two years. I have never borrowed any money (except student's loan) so I don't know if I should get the personal loan (spread over 5 years) first and then wait until the year after to apply for a mortgage or if I should wait until I am accepted for a mortgage to get the personal loan for a car?

1. Have you looked at how much mortgage you could potentially borrow? If so, to get a property in your area would you need to borrow at the top end?
2. As you have no other debts could you save and pay cash for the car?
If you are looking to get a mortgage near the top end of what a lender will give then try to avoid any other forms of debt as the repayments will be taken into consideration for affordability and may reduce the amount a mortgage lender will let you borrow
