O/S Daily Thursday 6 February 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

RRuby - sorry to hear you've had scary news on top of the worry of DD's ex, stay strong x

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was a lovely egg, bacon, sausage, saute new potatoes, mushrooms and beans. Tonight I'm not sure, but I'll organise something whilst I'm out this morning. I have to take my car to the garage this morning for a service and MOT. Also I need to visit the bank and building society and speak to the jewellers again - as heard nothing again all week - we suspect they've lost DH's watch and just keep delaying telling us. I won't be leaving the shop today without speaking to the Manager and getting the contact details of Head office to make an official complaint - the customer service has been non existent. Not sure where we stand if they have lost it though.

Today I'll be doing the "to do" list and getting as much done as possible, starting to feel that we're getting a bit more routine into the week.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Thanks for the start nmlc, hope you get the watch back.

RR - So sorry you are going through this on top of everything else. You're in good hands, stay positive and remember we are here for you.

Well done Gers, sounds like a mammoth job! I do wonder how long we are expected to hang onto some bits of paperwork from the taxman, etc.

Productive day yesterday, hopefully more of the same today. I'm playing tetris with a small suitcase and lots of stuff DS1 wants taking over, I think I'll have to take a rather large handbag!

Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Good morning, cold and frosty here. Thanks, NMLC, for starting.

Redruby, I was very sorry to read your bad news. 4 years ago, almost to the day, I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal, followed by radiotherapy, and I'm 4 years into the 5 years of tablets,

The oncologist said I could have chemotherapy if I wanted it, but she thought radiotherapy and 5 years of tablets were enough, so I made the decision not to have chemo.

I was fortunate in that I was able to have radiotherapy at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle, so it wasn't far for me to travel.
I was at the hospital on Monday of this week for my annual check up, so am awaiting the results of mammograms.

I know how daunting and frightening the whole thing is, I'll be thinking of you, and I know everyone else on here will be.

Usual day ahead, same old same old! a bit of housework and general pottering - I think I might start a birthday card for a friend, I have a few ideas.

Yesterday DH was sawing the old shed up, that circular saw he borrowed fron DS made short work of it, then I helped him to load the car and he took it to the tip. He'll finish off sawing today. Just as well he'll get it finished, the forecast is not good for the next few days.

Hope everyone has as good a day as they can.
    Take care folks

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. I hope you get some answers today about the lost watch.

REDRUBY I keep thinking of you. So many on here have gone through the same thing and I hope by sharing their experiences it makes you feel more optimistic.

It's a day swap for me. The Friday Tidy will be today and Shopping Thursday will be tomorrow. And I can easily get confused with what day it is at the best of times! Anyway as it's Thursday it will be the usual Bolognese Bake for tea and I will get that on the go shortly before cleaning starts. Only two DGDs here tonight though as the middle one is going on a school trip to France. She is beyond excited! They will be visiting the landing beaches and graves and the last day going to EuroDisney.

It feels less cold today but we sound to be due a right battering at the weekend if the forecast is right.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Especially thinking of RR. Take care all xx

    Good morning

Quite bright here. Hope it stays that way.

Red Ruby. Oh my, you're really going through the mill at the moment. Such a lot of worries all at once. I am thinking of you, with fingers crossed for a good outcome , for your daughter and now for you too.

I missed posting yesterday. DH was admitted to hospital. He was recently diagnosed with gallstones. Yesterday he was particularly ill, and so GP sent him to hospital. He's now waiting for more tests and a decision about an op. He wasn't too bad when I left last night. Think he's relieved something is being done.

So, a day of hospital visiting for me. Quick shower, pack his bag of requested items and off I go.

    Happy Thursday everyone

    Morning all.

HAPPYCAS - sorry to read about your OH. I hope he's being kept pain free.

Now that I've cleared out the box file cupboard I'll stop the massive decluttering to move onto the moving of what I can out of the room. The furniture will be all shifted up into the top corner of the room. It's now about books and drawers. I'm hoping that the drawers in one particular piece of furniture come out so I don't have to empty each one.

My shoulders and back are still very tender after the deep tissue massage yesterday though they also feel looser.

DM's usual cleaner comes back today after a long time off after her foot operation. They'll no doubt do a lot of chatting to catch up.

Now I wish everyone a very happy Thursday.

Cold and frost here I have put the heating back on for a while to keep the chill off.

Thank you all so much for the good wishes and pm's, I think I have a long road ahead but it does help to know you are all here and I can call on many of you for advice if needed. The thing that is terrifying me atm is in case its spread and there is nothing they can do, I am sure everyone goes through this and its quite normal !! thank you all again xx

Going to have a quick tidy through this morning and take the pup to the park for a run, I seem to get tired very quickly atm and am tending to have a nap in the afternoons with the pup.

Dinner tonight will be the filled pasta with garlic bread and salad so nice and easy and no great effort.

Right I need some marmite on toast, have a good day all and thanks again for the support xx

At the moment I am sitting in my chair in the sitting room and he is draining down the system. which means the front doo and porch door are open and the ppe running from my radiator in the sitting room so thick jumper and hot drinks and a warm throw over my knees. One its drained down he will be able to shut the doors at least .

I have got some rolls and some bacon so I can keep him well fed during the day:) plus lots of tea on tap.

roll on tomorrow when its all done and dusted

We had the most beautiful day here yesterday, sunny, mild and spring like, today the sun is shining on a very hard frost. I went to feed the birds a while back and am still thawing out. There is a robin on my bird table now and yesterday there was a family of bluetits and several coaltits, sparrows, magpies, pigeons and a blackbird.

Today I'm going into town (actually city but here it is always called town) to my old office to produce my docs, sign contracts and start a piece of work for them. It is going to feel strange, part of my job, the biggest part for many years, was to supervise and support a group of independent workers. Now I am one and in fact, the only one.

I hope everyhas a goid day and redruby please get as much rest as you can, you are bound to be tired.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning all! Yesterday was a bit of heavy day physically speaking, two trips to the dump and filled my sisters car for the charity. I did have a wander over to the allotments to see if anyone wanted an old paraffin heated for their greenhouse , came away with a bottle of home brew weed killer and an aerating thing for the lawn with a promise to throw any unused gardening implements over the wall for the newbies. And my sister cleaned the house like a whirlwind, so well done her!

Today I'm going to fill the car again with various stuff for dump and charity and then there should only be fiddly little things to sort out and big things to go. That is, of course, not including the shed of doom.
I saw some perfectly good crutches in the metal recycling so brought them back with me intending to charity gift them but my ex neighbour came round with a bag of cleaning stuff for me so he left with jam, a DVD player and the crutches for his mother. Result!
Honestly, I wish I worked at a place like that, the amount of good stuff that gets chucked away is frightening. A lot of it could just go to charities or be sold....Maybe I've found my calling....:)

RR, hope you're bearing up and yes, the thought that it might spread is on my mind but it's also a bit like the people living under the volcano, you know it might blow but you just have to get on with it...You can't live your life in terror all the time. Jackie, sounds very cold, hope the bacon doesn't freeze and the doors are shut sharpish! AOD,same here, pleasant and sunny yesterday, brass monkeys today...well done Gers! And well done to your mam for letting go....Happycas, hope he can be treated quickly! Nanny, so how did the medication review go? TA, hope she appreciates the new toy and leaves your sofa and curtains alone! Hey all reading along....Taking great decluttering strides Thursday!
