New and Prepared to face...?

Hi,

Am totally new to this forum but glad of it - have read a few posts.

I've spoken to the National Debt Helpline and got their sample letters and budget sheets - worked out what I can give each month to credit cards/loans/catalogues (thankfully all non-priority debts) and should be ready to write to them hoping they'll accept the offer. Then, hopefully the -£400 a month I've got at the moment will turn into a breakeven situation.

But....

Why can't I get the letters in the post? Why am I spending more on my credit cards first? It's like I'm on spending overdrive.

"Quick, I've got to spend all the possible credit I've got before the nasty credit card people stop them..."

Is this normal? When will I bite the bullet?

Cheers! FH

  • Hello and welcome. Not sure what is normal and what isnt. Someone who knows what they are talking about will be along soon xx
  • Thanks.
Am sick of getting a bigger loan or re-mortgaging.
The next step is to sell my house and I really don't want to uproot my 6 year old.
I've got to get a grip on things and stop living on credit but (and who doesn't?) I like being able to buy stuff.. go to the cinema... buy my girl a magazine or small treat...
Deep breath and send the letters.....???
  • Have you looked at www.whatsthecost.com ? Also keep a spending diary to keep track of where you are spending your money.

Definately deep breath and send the letters. Be brave!!

best to post your SOA then we will understand the financial situation
  • post your SOM (list of ALL incomings & ALL outgoings) & we can see what you can do to save money.

Most of us are in the same boat or have been so, so we all know where you are coming from.

I too love a shiny new glossy magazine & to treat my kids, but look at my sig :b

    Hi

I can relate to how you are feeling - it's like you are well aware of the situation and the seriousness of it but because we've got the whole idea of without credit we'll be stuck with nothing,it scares us too much to actually get rid of them!! I would definitely recommend posting a SOA (see the sticky on the top of the board with details for newbies). It will help you to see what you can do - you've worked out your incomings and outgoings to find how you are down each month and we can offer advice on all those areas. It may well be that you might need professional advice too from a free company such as the CCCS as well.

Do post it :) and welcome to the board!!
