    I'd check again - you will only get the full amount if you continue to make NI contributions for the next 4 years as you would have been contracted out until 2016. I was in a similar situation to you (same age and starting year) before I took early retirement and I am still making NI contributions.

    I was 55 last June. I only needed this tax year to qualify for the full state pension, which I managed (earning about £9k in 3 months) before retirement last summer.

    I was only something silly like £0.80 short at the end of the 2018/19 tax year so not much of a return for this year's NI contributions.

    So it isn't as clear cut as you think.

    Ahh what’s in a word, reduced as in less than £168.60 due to less contributions, not reduced as I’ve been naughty ;-)
