I was 55 last June. I only needed this tax year to qualify for the full state pension, which I managed (earning about £9k in 3 months) before retirement last summer.
I was only something silly like £0.80 short at the end of the 2018/19 tax year so not much of a return for this year's NI contributions.
So it isn't as clear cut as you think.0 -
