If I had to I’d rent it out, although that would cause its own issues about who gets the income etc.
I really want to be free of having a joint mortgage with someone who will use it to cause trouble. Getting rid of that mortgage is a priority.

Well if she didn't fill out an annual tax return then she would be committing tax fraud if she wanted the income. You could charge for managing it so she would get very little as renting these days isn't as good as it was.

If she isn't going to help you sell it then she wont want to help you rent it. It doesnt need her consent either as its already a BTL mortgage.
  • Good point about the consent.

Getting rid of the mortgage is certainly proving tricky though. I still may have to see a solicitor.
  • I wonder if the mortgage provider will just let me pay off the mortgage to be done with it..?

Doesn't resolve the issue of joint ownership. Your ex could make a financial claim at any point of time in the future.
  • Doesn’t the mortgage provider own the house? That’s a naive question isn’t it?

Very naive.  You and the ex own the house.  You owe the mortgage lender some money.  If you dont pay, the mortgage lender has the right to recover your debt by selling the house.

  • So, when all said and done, if she’s deliberately being awkward, there is no way out other than letting the payments lapse.
