Missed Redemption Date. Who is at fault?

Hi all

It's probably not even worth my time fighting this but the lack of service has annoyed me. The last day for my current mortgage deal was January 30th and I was supposed to switch to a new provider on February 1st. The initial redemption statement the conveyancer was about £1,000 more expensive than my balance as it never took into account my latest payment. This is obvious the fault of the bank but the conveyancer alerted me to this just on Friday and asked me to pay the £1,000 (they don't take credit card and had to be done by bank transfer).

I didn't have the money so couldn't pay it. I also told them the redemption figure was wrong. I called my current lender and got a redemption statement with minutes and send this to the conveyancer. They said they had to get their own and have request this and that it usually takes a couple hours. I hear nothing over the weekend and gave them a call today. Turns out they did not request the updated statement on Friday or the weekend and were going to do it today (only because I called).

When they requested the statement, they did it to complete tomorrow and not today as originally planned. This means I had to pay a days worth of interest. Doesn't seem to be worth my time but what has annoyed me is the lack of service, no initial communication and the fact no one bothered to request the statement on Friday or Saturday and only done so when I chased.

That £27 is a weeks' worth of shopping easily. Do you think I have a case to get this paid back to me and if so, who from?

When did you make your last mortgage payment?

P.S. February 1st wasn't a working day. Transfer could only have been effected today.

Dont forget that you have paid 1 days interest so you wont pay the full month's worth of interest on the new lender - you havent "lost" anything.

It's not a normal part of any remortgage service that they'll promise completion will take place on a specific date, so no chance of claiming a day's interest (assuming £27 is actually the difference between the two rates - is it?).
