Any recommendations for a good draining rack please?

Options
Our very old plastic curver draining rack (inherited with DH) has finally gone brittle and needs replacing. It was a nightmare to keep clean, didn't fit on the side of our sink properly, and I won't be sad to see it go. However, I need to find a good one to replace it with. Does anyone have any recommendations at all please?

I have a china butler sink in my kitchen, so had to choose a dish rack which could drain into the sink and not get the worktop wet if possible. I chose the Simplehuman compact drainer (it has a spout underneath it which channels any water straight into the sink) and I’m very pleased with it. It’s easy to clean, but isn’t very big so that might be an issue if you have a large family. I’m only cooking for two of us since our daughters grew up and deserted us, so the size is perfect :)

Thank you CJ - will look into it. We have a dishwasher too, but we have a few things that can't be washed in it, plus sometimes the plastic bits etc don't come out of the dishwasher dry, so they need to drain on the rack still.

Something like a draining rack is very personal and what is perfect for one person just wouldn't suit the next.

Mine did the same recently and I got one if these in Ikea and totally love it and have since bought several for family members who admired it - it was £1.75 when I got it, but it's 2 quid now. I even bought a spare, in case they don't still have them when something happens to mine:

I am however amused by the photos to see that is what the shapes on the side are for - it was brand new and not yet on the site when I got mine and I knew they would be intentional. I'll have to try it.

  • Until fairly recently we had an Umbra Tub dish rack in white. That has a draining spout to one side too. They retail for around £12......

When we recently fitted a kitchen in our new home (with double butler sink and dishwasher) we ditched the old dish rack as we'd had it a long time. As we only hand wash a few items DH thought we could survive with just a Joseph Joseph draining mat, but I confess I preferred my old Umbra :o

I've also got the Ikea one mentioned further above and it's great!

I'm very ashamed to say that I used to buy a new one anytime the old one looked a bit manky, but then I discovered that I can just put it in the dishwasher and it comes out sparkling. :j

Only thing for me is that the water drains onto the worktop, which has groves in it which are supposed to channel the water to the sink, but it doesn't quite work that way. So I have to put some elbow grease into cleaning that about twice a year.

I did consider getting this to put under the draining rack, but OH vetoed it, promising that he would clean the worktop instead... I'm not holding my breath! :rotfl:
