I thought I would do the challenge starting January, so this month I have been making a note of every single thing we have bought, so now I know what my budget is going to be. I'll post on the January board now because my next shop wont be until the new year. Thanks for the great idea guys.

  • I keep meaning to get around to finalising my Dec spend but now that this thread has been de-stickied I think I'm just going to have to come to the conclusion that it was £220 - last total was about £215 and I know I bought a couple of bits and bobs since then. This is 10% over budget but the budget was probably always a bit unrealistic since it did include Xmas gifts in the 'bringing along food' kind of way. Considering my December spend last year was more like £560 I'm calling it a success :)

I think this makes my grocery challenge for the year come in around £2350. The previous year my overall total was £4000  so a pretty good saving. And I didn't start the GC till February and took a month off in August (not on purpose, just ran out of steam :))

I would like to improve on this in 2008. I'm setting an overall target of £1800 - £2000. I'm hoping for a very lean January (£100 - £110) to give me a good start.

Here's to 2008 :T:T:T:T:T:T:T Good luck to us all.

  • Looked back at a post I made at the start of the month and realise that it all went wrong.

I have no idea what I spent as all my spending got muddled up and I ended up spending lots on Xmas even though I had lots of freebies and bargins to give as presents.

Oh well on to January.

  • Hi everyone! Well I have finished my shopping for the month, and my grand total is £150.34 so I am £30.34 over budget. Not to worry, I think I have still done okay to say this was my first attempt, and of course I bought extra things as it's Christmas.

Signed up to the January challenge for £120 again. Well done everyone x

Come in way underbudget but not for reasons I would like it to be, about £90 under, we've all been ill so haven't eaten much, the planned eating out was cancelled as we were ill, most of Christmas dinner is in the freezer etc. Anyway I've added mine to the list as my month finishes today, can't go anywhere as my partner has the car and I don't particularly want to. I don't need anything, milks paid for until next week.

For those who have gone over, like rosieben has said, it's been Christmas, think of what you would have usually spent. I started doing these challenges last December, the one before that I spent over £800, £600-800 was average for me, so there is a big difference monthly, last year I spent about £350 in December.....

Anyway, I am done for December but know many are not so keep either posting or sending a PM with your totals and I will add them too, for the rest I'll see you on the January challenge...it's getting rather busy on there.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

Think I will still need to buy milk and bread tomorrow, and possibly I will have to buy some nibbles, becuase it looks like I wont be going out tomorrow afterall.!! Why am I not surprised? But I think I may still come in under budget.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
