My girlfriend bought a secondhand mountain bike for my daughter but it need two new tyres so could someone recommend some cheap tyres that will only be used on paths. The tyres are 26 X 1.9 50-559 so could we fit tyres that are 26 X 1.90 47-559 as I don't know whats the difference between 50-559 and 47-559.

26 X 1.9 is the imperial measurement and 50-559 is the metric measurement
l would have thought the 50-559 would be described as a 26 x 2.0 and the 47-559 would be described as a 26 x 1.9 but either will fit just fine
if the bike is just going to be used on footpaths and tarmac and very little off road use then l would look at a street tyre or a cross tyre as big knobbly tyres can be hard to pedal on the road and will sap your energy0 -

that is the sort of tyre was talking about smooth in the centre of the tyre for easy riding on the road and some nobbles on the edge for some grip on occasional off road use0 -

Basically any 26'' tyre will fit. the next number is merely the width. If you have a mountain bike then you're unlikely to ever have issues with clearance if you end up buying something wider. Those who risk nothing, Do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothingMFW #63 £0/£5000

that will depend on the type of brakes fitted to the bike
if you have caliper brakes or a v brake fitted then a wider tyre may come into contact with the brake assembly
if the bike has discs brakes fitted then you will have more room to fit a wider tyre but if you are not sure then best stick to a max width of two inches and you wont go wrong1
