WIN DAVID HEALY - THE STORY SO FAR
In November 2007, David Healy broke the European record of 13 goals in a qualifying campaign when he netted the winning goal against Denmark. With a record 32 international goals for Northern Ireland, David Healy already sits firmly alongside national legends such as George Best, Pat Jennings, Danny Blanchflower and Norman Whiteside.
Healy, who was born in Killyleagh in 1979, started playing football for Down Academy High School in Downpatrick before signing for Manchester United. After a period on loan to Port Vale, he moved to Preston North End - where his goalscoring ability began to develop. A move to Leeds United followed and in each of three seasons, he was either top goalscorer or joint top goalscorer. Healy finally got to play in the Premier League when he moved to Fulham in 2007 - reuniting with his ex Northern Ireland manager, Lawrie Sanchez. He instantly became a hit with the home fans when scored in his first Premiership game for Fulham after just 50 seconds!
Healy's international career with Northern Ireland has been equally successful. He scored the winning goal against England in the side's famous victory in 2005 and went on to achieve a hat trick against Spain the following year. He repeated this feat when Northern Ireland played Liechtenstein, scored the most unforgettable goal ever scored at Windsor Park and of course broke the European record.
David Healy - The Story So Far, by Ivan Martin and published by Appletree Press, traces the footballing story of a national favourite who continues to help take the Northern Ireland team from strength to strength. The book looks at some of the most memorable moments in his career from his first league appearances to his close goal-scoring partnerships with Aaron Hughes, Keith Gillespie and James Quinn. For football fans everywhere who admire players in the mould of George Best and Danny Blanchflower, this is definitely a book to be read and re-read as Healy's career unfolds.
