Debt Collection Agency - Moorcraft, help please

Hi i'm new here but desperately seeking advice. I've got myself in a pickle with debt up to around 20k. One of these was a high interest credit card who prey on people like me. I missed a couple of payments and put my head in the sand when I saw the amount they were requesting was getting ridiculous. The card was registered at a rented property which I moved out of in August and never updated my address with the company.

I have now recieved an email from Moorcraft asking me to contact them and they have also sent a letter to my family address stating they are attempting to contact the named person (myself) regarding as personal matter and have been provided this address as a possible address for their customer. They have requested that I contact them.

I'm unsure of my next steps, I have seen people talking about the three letter process but it seems too good to be true. I've recently had to leave my job due to a change in personal circumstances and currently have no income - please could anyone advise? Thank you

Moorcroft are a collection agency, they operate on behalf of the major credit providers as a collector, they do not own your debt, they are just acting on behalf of the company that does.

Don`t get obsessed with witchcraft and trickery, sorry, i meant the 3 letter process, its all bunkum, well most of it anyway, what it all boils down to is if the company chasing you for the debt, can actually provide evidence of your liability, or not, if they do, then they can legally chase you, if they can`t, then they cannot take action through the courts to enforce their rights in respect of that debt, and it effectively becomes dead in the water.

So if you want to be proactive, write to Moorcroft, and ask for proof of the debt, we have a letter template in the stickies, you will then find out one way or another what your options are.

As you have no current income, it may be a good time to deal with it.

    Are you a homeowner ?
Do you have any assets ?

    Similar line of thought.

With 20k debts, no income and making no payments you need advice. Sourcrates has links to three trusted agencies for debt advice in his signature. CAB can also advise you onwhat benefits you should be claiming.

That should be your primary focus, not engaging with Moorcroft.
