Help with BR forms

I am having some trouble with the two questions on the forms that deal with when you first had difficulty paying your debts and reasons for bankruptcy.

As I've mentioned in previous posts I was left with some debts from my divorce in 1999/2000 and because I was unemployed I couldn't pay the debts and got CCJ's. Obviously those CCJ's have been paid monthly since 1999/2000 until last month.

Because I've had several years (2001-2007) of being able to pay my subsequently obtained credit cards/loans in full each month, should I answer the questions on the BR forms mentioned above as now being the time I had difficulty and the reasons or go way back to the time when those 3 CCJ's were awarded against me?

Q 11.1 says in the notes: "Give the approximate date you first experienced difficulty in paying your debts as they came due".

So I would say that definitely goes back to the first trouble.

The much more generous space in Q 11.2 gives you a chance to fully explain.

In the end this is just to give the OR/court a place to start/insight. If they need to know any more then the OR will ask in any interview.

  • Thank you fermi, that is what I had thought but wanted other opinions.

In Q11.2 to explain the background should I say something along the lines of....following separation/divorce in 1999 I was left with debts I was unable to pay due to being an unemployed single parent which led to the CCJ's being made against me. In 2001 I obtained employment and was able to support myself and pay my debts until xyz occured in 2007.

    Sounds OK to me.

It's one of those questions where I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

As long as you are honest and don't put yourself down too much unnecessarily then it's whatever makes sense to you.
