Tesco gets my vote mainly because they have the best discount codes like this week I saved £12 off my shopping and other times have had an extra 1000pts = £40 in deals the other supermarkets dont seem to have as many of these floating around. if you check out the discount codes board there is a thread just for tesco codes I have never done a shop without using a code ;)

  • I'm biased in favour of Tesco because my son works there & has a discount card, 10% off almost everything is not to be snifed at ;)

Are you sure Sainsbury's is much more expensive?

I run my shopping every week through MySupermarket, and usually for me it comes out in the order Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco & Waitrose.

Sainsbury's is usually more expensive than Asda by a couple of pounds, and Tesco is very close to Sainsbury's (usually under a pound), but still more expensive regardless!

I've used Tesco and Asda. I use Tesco every week. I've tried twice to use Asda. The delivery and picking was great, but they put the amount through on your card initially before doing the shop (presumably so they don't waste their time picking if you can't afford to pay). This is a holding amount (the amount advised on your email confirmation), however, if the actual amount is different (because of BOGOFs etc), then that amount goes through at the till, but the holding amount doesn't leave your account for 7 days.

This happened to me twice. I thought the first time was a fluke, but nope - it happened again. This is really not helpful, if you're on a tight budget.

I emailed customer services about this in August, and I'm still waiting for a response.

  • What about OCADO? Before I discovered coupons, I found the service excellent. One hour delivery slots and if any items are missing/broken a simple email and the monies are refunded.

  • Used both Tescos and Asda and both have pro's and con's.

Asda price match substitutions so if an item is out of stock and they send a higher value replacement you dont get charged the extra whereas with Tescos you do. Asda substitutions are clearly bagged compared to Tescos should you need to send anything back.

Tescos have more codes available on the net but can work out dearer if they substitute products. However Tescos slots for delivery are usually available more so than Asda and they do the coupons to collect for schools.
  • i now shop at sainsbugs and have done ever since we owned tony our pet tortoise, you may ask how a tortoise comes into this, but, tecos and asda (walmarts) are both involved inhumane torture and killing of our friendly shelled friend's (amongst other animals i dare guess too? not wanting to start a debate either). more can be found about it at the tortoise trust web site.
i dont normally boycot brands or shops due to a culture difference, but i dont agree with cruelty to any animals for food sake as there are more humane ways of doings i think.

oh and sainsbugs always has a parking space within walking distance to the front door, is often smaller and more easy to find things in, the food qaulity is better and i always get double nectar points at my local shop.

Have had lots of deliveries from Asda.No complaints from me.Always ontime, lovely drivers and I always use a free delivery code.Either from them via email or from on here:)

Tried to do a shop with tesco but found the items I buy are more expensive at tesco so didn't go through with my order.

  • Hi

I used to have Tesco deliver to us, but when Sainsburys started, thought I'd give them a try.

I'm pleased I did - I haven't noticed any difference in the cost of my weekly shop - obviously some things are cheaper and others more expensive - swings and roundabouts. I like the 1 hour slot you get with Sainsburys rather than Tesco's 2 hour. If Sainsburys are even just 1 minute late we get a £10 voucher (had 4 this month), this I suppose could be a bad thing if you are waiting for them, but as they've only been 10 minutes late at the most, its not that bad and I've always had a phone call from the driver explaining that they will be so many minutes late. I've heard that Tesco now deliver to our address from a store that is 35 miles away instead of using the local one that's only 7 miles, I don't know why, but it doesn't make sense - how long is the frozen/chilled food on the truck for? All the Sainsburys' drivers have been great and are very polite. If there has been a problem with the order - something missing etc (doesn't happen often at all) it is soon dealt with by the customer services. Delivery is usually £5, but if you have a delivery on either Tues, Wed or Thurs and spend over £70 it is reduced to £2.50. This applies to us most weeks as I do a joint delivery with my neighbour.

I am thinking of trying Asda, but will wait now until after Christmas as they have only just started to deliver from our store, and I'd like to avoid the teething problems they may have.

Good luck with your choice, whatever it may be.
