Specsavers giving me display frames

Hi
I'm a bit of a fuss pot when it comes to new things like my glasses. I was slightly dismayed to learn that my local Specsavers have given me the original frames I tried on. I thought, stupidly I suppose, that I'd be given a new pair and the subsequent adjustments would have been done on the day
I rang to check and as the code writing inside the frames looked worn and the girl just confirmed my suspicions. She said they are covered by a 2 year warranty anyway. Anyone else encountered this?

That's what they always do as those are the frames that all the measurements are taken with and marked on.
As far as I'm aware that's what all opticians do.0 -
Thanks for that. I've a few minor problems with the frames and I was wondering if it was due to the frames being put on too many heads! If its standard practice that's fair enough. Think I'm going to have to go back regardless for adjustments.0

Yes, I was surprised at first but I just make sure to check them over once I've decided on a pair. I'm sure if they're in less-than-excellent condition they'd not begrudge getting a new pair out.0

With around 700 stores in the UK - and let's say each store has 500 pairs of glasses on display - that'll be 350,000 pairs of glasses - no business is going to buy 350k pairs of glasses just to show customers what they look like and how they feel - it's all stock - it comes in - it goes on display - you buy it. Sometimes if it's a popular frame, they may have several pairs in stock, and you might happen to get a new pair - but most likely many Specsaver customers (and other opticians) will have purchased directly from display.0

Even in independent land most spectacles are supplied off the shelves although some patients do order others in - sometimes if they want a different colour etc.
Never noticed any difference in breakage rate between shelf sold one and ordered in ones. You do not know if the ordered in ones have been returned from another practice anyway.0 -
So every time someone orders a pair, they use the frames on display, and have to put prices tags on a new pair?. Surely not they are ordered from a central depot, not made in the shop.0

Specsavers have a refund guarantee, so if you're not happy, just threaten that you want a refund if they won't give you replacement frames. I'm sure they'd rather pop your lenses in a different frame than give you a refund.0

Yes.
Same as every other shop. Always suprised the some people think otherwise. Would be a vast number of wasted frames otherwise.0
