Civil service jobs

Hi there
I’ve applied for an AO role in the civil service moj, that says ‘on hold’, not sure if I did well in the test or not.

I’ve also applied for an EO role that says application received, it’s been a week after he closing date.I only got 66% in situational judgement.

Does anyone know how long it takes after an application to get a reply for these type of roles?Any info/experiences helpful.

    Hi Jobhunt

I’m looking for the answer to that question too! Sorry to take over your thread but didn’t want to start a new one. Most threads seem to agree that it takes a while to hear after an interview, but the job I applied for, the interview date is approaching and still not heard anything, just says ‘application received’ so I’m wondering whether Iv not been successful or not..

I’m an AO in the Civil Service and if I remember rightly I was informed quite quickly that I had gained an interview. On hold could mean that for whatever reason the recruitment has been halted for now- that sounds like the most likely explanation.
I seem to recall (from my many rejections from the Fast Stream ) that they do tell you either way if you’ve made interview or not.
With regards to interview I’ve just found the email I was sent inviting me for interview in my current role, it was sent on 22 November and the interview slots closed on 3 December; I can’t remember exactly when my interview was, I think somewhere middle December so I would suggest that they send out interview requests in plenty time; if nothing has been heard and interview date is approaching I would hazard a guess that application hasn’t been successful.

I'm in WG-HSS but I know someone who's been through applying for the CS in England.

I think it can depend on where you're applying for - I know DWP at least used to do interviews/recruitment in tranches and you could be called for an interview 3-6 months after you applied - they keep applications that score above the threshold in a pool, then IIRC they keep successful candidates in a pool and assigned them jobs as they become available.

I'd suggest keep looking for alternatives and if you get an invite to interview then you'll have at least a weeks notice to prepare.

    Good luck :)
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

  • On hold means just that: it is pending. It could be that it’s a bulk recruitment campaign and they are waiting for the closing date to decide to interview, or because they are waiting for more interview dates to be available, or because the vacancy manager is on leave....

Basically, don’t hold your breath. Oh, and being on a reserve list does not guarantee a job. It’s there so if the successful candidate fails pre employment checks or pulls out they don’t need to go through the whole campaign again.

Or reserve lists can mean, as in my case, it’s a bulk recruitment campaign with many start dates and when they can fit you into a start date you’ll get called...
