Who Appoints Building Control

Doing a loft conversion and received £840 bill from a building control company appointed by my builder.
Had never heard of building control before this, but now a friend has told me I should have appointed them, and I am thinking that a building control company might have split loyalties if they are appointed by the builder.
Building company is loftsofbromley and building control company is assentbc.

The code of conduct for building inspectors requires that they will have written to you to inform you that they have been appointed, contact them and ask for a copy of that correspondence

They emailed me but didnot write me any letter. First email was on 24th December and building started 27th December

You may have agreed on your contract with the loft conversion company to use them

Edit :- Yes it says "we will deal with building control for you"

So you agreed to it
