Notice period or contract end date. Which takes precedence?

Options
Hi

I am currently on a six month full time contract. My probation ends on 6th April which contract states I have to give one month notice. My issue is the contract also states my end date is 30th April.

Which one would take precedence , the notice period or the end date? As the notice period would end after the end date of the contract.

Thanks

You have to give 1 months notice of resigning. If you give notice less than 1 month before the contract end date your job will end on 30 Apr (unless they offer an extension) regardless.
Giving notice will not extend your job beyond the contract end date

Be careful of fixed term contract end dates.

Some have terms that mean you need to give notice.

You may need to decline any offer to extend.

If you work one day beyond the fixed term automatically extends and notice periods apply

It's usually polite to let an employer know you won't be coming in after the end of the contract

Equally, it would be polite of the employer to let the employee know whether or not they have any thoughts on extending the current fixed term contract.

Maybe the employee could try asking?
