Installing a punchbag from a joist??

Hi,
I've cancelled my gym membership to save money and I've started the 28 day no beer challenge by Andy Ramage and its saved me a lot of money so far. To save more money and get in shape faster, I've installed a pull up bar at home and I'm thinking of getting a punchbag.
I've seen someone giving away a punchbag for free on facebook, but it doesn't have the fixings. I'm going to hang it from an eye bolt like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rMjq_C-PSk. The free standing punch bags are so expensive! Has anyone installed their own punchbag in this way before?

Yes - you just need to make sure that whatever it goes into can support it.
Use chains to get it to the right height and give you the right amount of movement.0 -
Incase the free one from Facebook doesnt work out, i bought one last summer, loads of really good ones on Amazon for not alot of money, already filled and also had free delivery.
Mine also came with the gloves (Thai boxing ones i think) but more importantly also came with the extra gel gloves that go underneath, definitely recommend them.
I have mine in the garage, hanging from a joist, seems very solid. I also bought a second fixing and bolted it to the top right corner of my garage wall. When I am not using it i have a chain on the underneath that i use to clip on to this other fixing with a carabiner clip to its completely out of the way and I can still use the full garage without it being in the way.0 -
How did you attach the chain into the beam?
I'm thinking of using the 15cm version of these eye bolts and then attaching a nut onto the top of the eyebolt as it comes out the top of the beam, a bit like the video.
Its not really going to be in the way, I'd rather it was installed securely. Do you think I should put some anti-vibration washers on it so it doesn't come loose?0 -
I bought an actual Punch Bag fixing, its very solid and apparently can hold 100kg, so not going to go anywhere
It was about £8 on Amazon,
